ATTO stands for Amazonian Tall Tower Observatory, in German about the High Tower Observatory in the Amazon. A total of 325 meters measures the tower linkage, which has now been inaugurated. Its purpose: High above the tops of the trees, the tower is to measure the climate development in the Brazilian rainforest. In the German-Brazilian joint project, modern measuring devices collect data daily, which are incorporated into models for climate development. Researchers from various Max Planck Institutes hope to obtain more reliable information about the development of the atmosphere.
