Life has always fascinated Thomas Willke (* 1960), from the tiniest molecule to entire ecosystems. That's why he studied biology (in Bielefeld and Philadelphia) and, after a brief excursion into biomedical research in 1994, came across a picture of science. The enthusiastic former pupil and student newspaper editor joined as an intern - like many of his bdw colleagues -, remained as an author and from 2000 to 2007 was head of life & environment. Since then he works in Lübeck as a correspondent for bdw. If he does not do that, he shoots nature and documentary films or drives his sailboat across the seas.
