This spiky contemporary is a spotted dogfish that has been newly hatched and scanned with an x-ray microscope. Scyliorhinus canicula, the scientific name, is littered with dandruff that resembles the teeth of cartilaginous fish. The hard skin scales help the sea animals as economically as possible to slide through the water. The picture shows the head of the dogfish.
